International Airlines July Update
Middle East Connectivity Returns
Following recent disruption across the Middle East, key airline services have now largely returned to normal. Emirates has resumed daily Auckland–Dubai flights, while Qatar Airways has restored its Auckland–Doha service via Adelaide, providing travellers with greater confidence and more options when connecting to Europe, the UK, Africa and beyond.
The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) has also lowered its travel advisory for the United Arab Emirates to Level 2 – Exercise Increased Caution, returning it to pre-conflict levels. While travellers should continue to monitor official advice, the update provides greater certainty when planning travel through the region.
Singapore Airlines Strengthens Connections into China
Singapore Airlines and Air China have announced plans to deepen their commercial partnership, with expanded codeshare services, closer schedule coordination and enhanced frequent flyer cooperation expected over time.
For New Zealand travellers, this strengthens connectivity through Singapore, making it easier to access destinations across mainland China while maintaining seamless onward connections through one of Asia's leading aviation hubs.
China Airlines Adds More Capacity from Auckland
China Airlines will introduce a higher-capacity Airbus A350-900 on selected Auckland–Taipei services from August, increasing seat availability on one of New Zealand's key gateways into North Asia.
The additional capacity provides greater flexibility for travellers heading to Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and other destinations throughout Asia, while helping ease demand during peak travel periods.
Cathay Pacific Continues Network Growth
Cathay Pacific continues expanding its international network, with new destinations and additional capacity supporting its ongoing recovery. The airline has also confirmed it remains on track with its growth plans despite recent geopolitical disruption, reinforcing Hong Kong's position as a key gateway into Asia and beyond.
For travellers, continued investment in the Cathay Pacific network means more routing options and improved connectivity across the region.
What This Means for Travellers
This month's updates highlight a continued focus on improving global connectivity, restoring capacity and strengthening airline partnerships. For New Zealand travellers, that translates into more choice, greater flexibility and easier access to key business and leisure destinations across Asia, Europe and beyond.
