Tried & Tested: Auckland
At Tandem Travel, we spend a lot of time helping our clients find the right place to stay.
Our Preferred Partner Programme gives us access to a carefully selected portfolio of trusted hotels, but we've always believed there's no substitute for experiencing them ourselves. Knowing a property is excellent is one thing. Knowing exactly which traveller it's right for is another.
That's where Tried & Tested for Business comes in. This new series follows our team as they check into the properties we recommend every day — paying attention to the things that matter most on a business trip: the workspace, the wellness facilities, the dining, the service, and the small details that can make or break a stay away from home.
This isn't about finding Auckland's best hotel. It's about understanding what makes each property unique, so we can make better, more personalised recommendations for every client and every trip.
Starting in Auckland, what follows is what our team experienced firsthand.
For Conferences Made Easy Horizon by SkyCity
If you've ever attended a conference, you'll know that convenience can make or break the experience.
Long walks between venues, navigating unfamiliar streets and trying to find somewhere to eat between sessions can quickly become frustrating when you're already juggling a packed schedule. That's where Horizon by SkyCity shines.
Located alongside the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) and connected to the wider SkyCity precinct, Horizon removes many of the logistical headaches often associated with conference travel.
During Kym Chung's stay, what stood out most was how easy everything felt. With accommodation, dining, entertainment and the NZICC all within easy reach, Horizon takes much of the stress out of conference travel.
The rooms are modern, spacious and equipped with smart technology, while the direct access to SkyCity's restaurants and facilities adds another layer of convenience.
For delegates attending multi-day events, that ease of movement can be a real advantage.
Tandem Takeaway: After experiencing the hotel firsthand, Kym, Global Client Executive, could see why it's such a standout choice for conference delegates, event attendees and travellers who value convenience above all else.

For When a Premium Stay Matters – Hotel Britomart, Britomart
Sometimes a trip calls for something a little special.
Whether you're hosting clients, meeting senior stakeholders or simply looking for a premium Auckland experience, The Hotel Britomart delivers in a way that feels both sophisticated and distinctly New Zealand.
When Vanessa Hefer, Marketing and Communications Manager, checked in, she was immediately struck by how different the experience felt from a more traditional five-star hotel. Located in the heart of the Britomart precinct, the hotel is perfectly positioned for meetings, dining, shopping and exploring the city.

Throughout the hotel, there are thoughtful touches that celebrate New Zealand craftsmanship, design and storytelling. From locally sourced minibar treats and artisan ceramics to timber-lined interiors and carefully considered details, everything feels intentional.
Vanessa described it best:
"What impressed me most was the sense of place. From the locally sourced treats in the minibar to the New Zealand-made details throughout the hotel, everything felt distinctly Aotearoa."
— Vanessa Hefer
The Hotel Britomart also offers beautifully designed meeting and event spaces, making it a strong option for client hosting, leadership meetings or smaller corporate gatherings where atmosphere matters.
Tandem Takeaway: Ideal for travellers seeking a premium experience in a prime location with exceptional design, sustainability credentials and a uniquely Auckland feel.
For a Well-Rounded Stay Pullman Auckland, Auckland CBD
Sometimes the best hotel isn't the one with one standout feature, it's the one that delivers consistently across every part of the guest experience.
Rather than being defined by one standout feature, AJ, Account Manager, found it was the combination of spacious rooms, polished service, quality dining and impressive wellness facilities that made the Pullman Auckland memorable.
While newer properties may grab attention with the latest design trends, Pullman continues to offer a reliable, comfortable and well-rounded experience. The rooms are spacious, the service is polished, and the facilities provide everything most business travellers need for a successful stay.
The hotel's wellness offering is particularly impressive, with a large gym, hot and cold plunge pools and spaces designed to help guests recharge between meetings and commitments.
The breakfast offering, spacious work areas and convenient location all contribute to a stay that feels easy and dependable.
For travellers who value comfort, consistency and a broad range of facilities under one roof, Pullman remains a strong Auckland option.
Tandem Takeaway: A great choice for travellers looking for comfort, convenience and a hotel that performs well across multiple areas.

For the Modern Business Traveller – voco, Auckland City Centre
One of the most common challenges business travellers face is finding a hotel that genuinely supports productivity on the road.
When Lisa Tau, Account Manager, checked into voco Auckland City Centre, she quickly noticed how thoughtfully the hotel caters to today's business traveller.
Located in the heart of the CBD, it's within easy walking distance of Queen Street, SkyCity, NZICC, the Viaduct and many central city offices. The location makes it easy to get where you need to be, while the hotel itself delivers the practical touches that can make a business trip run more smoothly.

During her stay, Lisa found the rooms spacious and thoughtfully laid out, with excellent lighting, comfortable seating, plenty of power points and a workspace that actually works. For travellers staying several nights, the guest laundry, gym facilities and onsite dining options are particularly useful.
"The workspace setup was one of the best I've experienced. Everything felt designed with business travellers in mind, from the room layout through to the practical little extras."
— Lisa Tau
With rooftop dining, a modern gym and easy access to transport options, voco strikes a strong balance between comfort and practicality.
Tandem Takeaway: Ideal for business travellers who need a hotel that supports both productivity and comfort while staying connected to the heart of Auckland.
For Balancing Work & Wellbeing Cordis, Auckland CBD
Business travel can be rewarding, but it can also be tiring.
Early flights, packed schedules and long days away from home mean many travellers are looking for hotels that help them maintain a sense of balance while they're on the road. Cordis Auckland does this exceptionally well.
For Latai Limu-Franklin, Account Support, the standout wasn't just the facilities—it was how effortlessly Cordis balanced productivity with relaxation from the moment she arrived. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the location is central, and the facilities offer plenty of opportunities to unwind after a busy day.
While the rooftop pool and Chuan Spa are obvious highlights, Latai found it was often the smaller touches—a comfortable room, a great breakfast and spaces to genuinely unwind—that made the biggest difference.
For travellers staying several nights or combining business commitments with personal time, Cordis offers a welcome balance between productivity and wellbeing.
Tandem Takeaway: Perfect for travellers who want to stay productive while still making time to recharge.

Why We Do This
At Tandem Travel, our role goes beyond making bookings. By staying in the hotels we recommend, we gain firsthand insights that help us match travellers with the right accommodation for their needs.
Whether it's proximity to a conference venue, a functional workspace, access to wellness facilities or simply a hotel that makes life easier on the road, these are the details that don't always show up on a booking site but can make a real difference to the overall experience.
Tried & Tested is our way of investing in that knowledge, strengthening our relationships with trusted hotel partners, and ensuring every recommendation we make is backed by real experience from our team.
