Wellington Domestic Koru Lounge Update

Wellington Airport's Southwest Pier has reopened following the fire incident on 12 June, helping to ease pressure on domestic jet operations.

The Northern Pier had been handling all jet flights over recent weeks while repair work was underway. With gates 13 to 16 now back open, travellers should notice some improvement in passenger flow through the terminal, particularly for domestic Air New Zealand jet services.

Gate 17 remains temporarily closed while further repair work continues.

Wellington Domestic Lounge remains closed

The Air New Zealand Wellington Domestic Lounge remains closed until further notice following damage caused by the terminal fire at Wellington Airport.

A reopening date has not yet been confirmed.

From Monday 13 July 2026, eligible lounge customers will have access to a new Koru Lounge Coffee Cart, located after security screening on the Southwest Pier, adjacent to Gate 13.

The coffee cart will operate Monday to Friday only and will not be available on weekends or public holidays. Initially, it will operate throughout the day, with operating hours to be reviewed based on customer demand.

The Koru Lounge Coffee Cart will offer barista-made coffees and teas, along with freshly baked muffins, pastries, cookies and savoury snacks for eligible lounge customers. An Air New Zealander will also be available at the coffee cart to welcome customers, answer questions and confirm lounge eligibility.

The coffee cart provides an additional option for eligible customers who are short on time or who prefer to wait closer to their departure gate after clearing security.

The Wellington Regional Lounge remains open for eligible customers, with temporary capacity restrictions in place.

Eligible customers departing on domestic or regional flights will continue to receive updates through the Air New Zealand app and SMS.

What this means for customers

For travellers departing from Wellington, the airport experience may still feel a little different while the Domestic Lounge remains closed. We recommend allowing a little extra time, particularly during peak travel periods, and checking the Air New Zealand app for the latest flight and lounge updates.

Air New Zealand has thanked customers for their patience and understanding while these temporary arrangements and operational updates are managed.
